POSITION TITLE: General Practitioner with Ortho
FLSA STATUS: Exempt- Commission
SUPERVISOR: Chief Executive Officer
OBJECTIVE: Responsible for examining, diagnosing, and treating malocclusions and oral cavity abnormalities. Design and implement appliances to realign teeth and jaws. The General Practitioner with Ortho also supervises his/her dental assistant.
RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following):
• Fit dental appliances in patients’ mouth to alter the position and relationship of teeth and jaws.
• Study diagnostic records of patients medical and dental histories.
• Diagnose teeth, jaw, and other dental abnormalities.
• Implement treatment to patients.
• Coordinate orthodontic services with other dental and medical services.
• Design and produce dental appliances for instance space maintainers, retainers, and labial and lingual arch wires.
• Provide instruction on diet, brushing, flossing, and other aspects of dental care.
• Provide emergency coverage to patients.
• Administer anesthetics and write prescriptions for antibiotics and other medications.
• Other duties deemed necessary by supervisor.
QUALIFICATION
Knowledge of:
• Federal and State regulation and guidelines.
• All dental equipment including but not limited x-ray machines, drills, mouth mirrors, probes, forceps, brushes, and scalpels.
• General Dentistry.
Skills:
• Effective communication skills both orally and written.
• Ability to read an X-ray.
• Ability to work harmoniously with other professionals and administrative staff.
Requirements:
• Graduation from an Accredited Dental School with a specialty in orthodontics.
• CPR Certification.
• Maintain a valid and current DEA registration.
• 2 or more years of experience in the orthodontic field.
• Valid Dental License.
